Bit Badges and Cheer Leaderboards

What are Twitch Bit Badges?

All Twitch affiliates and partners can customize their channels Bit Badges with a custom design and name specifically for their channel. Bit badges can be applied to a single bit, hundred bits and thousand bits – with a top level bit badge of five million bits. Bit Badges allows streamers to create custom branding for their audience. Bit badges are currently available to all Partners and Affiliates.

Bit badges help members of your Twitch community stand out for their support!

Bit Donation Leaderboards

Each week all partner and affiliate Twitch channels have a leaderboard for all of the top bit donors. The top 10 highest bit donations and subscription donors are featured on the channels leaderboard:

When do the Bit Donation leaderboard reset?

Bit donation leaderboards are reset each Monday at midnight pacific time for weekly leaderboards. Monthly bit donation leaderboards are reset on the last day of each month.

How long do you keep your bit donation leaderboard, and bit badges?

Once you unlock a bit badge, you keep that badge for as long as you hold your rank. For example, if you are in the #1 bit donation spot, and someone overtakes you, they will receive the #1 badge, and you will take the #2 badge.

What happens when a Top Cheerer or Gifter is banned / unbanned from a channel?

When a Top Cheerer or Gifter is banned from a channel their Top Cheer or Gift count will be removed from the leaderboard and everyone below the banned user will move up a spot.If the previous Top Cheerer or Top Gifter is unbanned, they will be eligible to receive their position again should they still qualify. As banned users are not able to Cheer or gift subscriptions, their position may have changed. Timeouts do not affect leaderboards.

What if I don’t want to be included on a leaderboard?

If you have turned on Hide Progressive Gifter Badge and Gifts Given Count in your Security and Privacy settings or you have only given gifts or Cheered anonymously, you will not appear on the Gifting or Cheering leaderboards.

Fun Fact: Bit Badges were first introduced May 9th, 2017

How to customize Bit Badges?

All settings regarding Cheer Chat Bit Badges can be found in your Twitch Dashboard. Once in the dashboard, navigate to Partner / Affiliate settings. Once in the Partner / Affiliate section, you can scroll down to find all settings for your Cheer Badge settings.

From here – you can decide which Bit Badges are enabled in your channel. You can customize which badges your viewers unlock based on their total Bit Cheer. Users will have their highest level Bit Badge displayed next to their Twitch Username in chat. You can turn off Badge Tiers and badges for your channel in this section as well. However, we strongly suggest streamers take this as an opportunity to create a unique community.

How to upload Twitch Bit Badge’s?

Within the Twitch Badges section on your dashboard – click Edit on any Bit Tier to begin. You can upload new badge images and add an optional custom badge name of your choosing that will be shown instead of the default Twitch Bit Badge defaults.

Reminder: Twitch is currently ONLY supporting static PNG images for badges.

You will need each badge image as a .png in three sizes:

  • 18 x 18px
  • 36 x 36px
  • 72 x 72px

Simply click in each box to open a file picker, or drag the appropriately-sized emote to their slot.

As soon as you upload your new badges and click Save, they will then be available for your community. For those viewers that already have a Bit badge, they will have to Cheer once for their badge to be updated to the new custom design.

To reset a tier back to the default Bit Badge image, click Edit on the appropriate tier, then click Reset to Default Badge below, then Save Changes.

Where to get custom Bit Badges?

You can always reach out to an illustrator to create a graphic for you that fits within one of the three sizes for Twitch Bit badge upload. Below are several paid options for Bit Badges:

Bits to Dollars are always on the lookout for new Bit Badge artists to feature. Please reach out to us today for more information!

Twitch Alerts

Custom Twitch channel alerts can help set your channel apart. For bit donations, channels can use special notifications that appear during the broadcast, that can be customized by the streamer. You can bind twitch alerts to appear on stream whenever anything specific occurs, such as a new follower or subscriber, and their visuals and sound effects can both be changed.

To take advantage of Twitch alerts, your channel must be broadcast from a streaming software like OBS. This will give you the ability to display graphics on top of the live stream. Over the last few years there have been a number of third-party services that work directly with OBS to help you get your custom Twitch Alerts on stream.

We’ve highlighted some of the best Twitch Alert services available in 2020:

StreamLabs

StreamLabs is the service most-used by new and experienced streamers for its Twitch alerts due to its ease of use and support for Twitch features like bits. Here’s how to set it up.

  1. Once logged into the StreamLabs website with your Twitch account, click on AlertBox from the left menu.
  2. You will see five default alert names with checkboxes next to them at the top of the screen. Uncheck the ones you don’t want to use. Keep the ones you do want to use checked.
  3. At the bottom of the screen will be some General Settings for your alerts such as a time delay and basic layout. Make the preferred changes and click Save Settings.
  4. Next to General Settings are tabs for the individual alerts. Click on the tabs to customize the image and sound you want to use for each one.
  5. Once all of your customizations have been made, click Save Settings and click on the Click to Show Widget URL box at the top of the screen. Highlight this URL by double-clicking on it with your mouse and then copy it to your clipboard by right-clicking on it and selecting Copy.

Muxy

Muxy offers a variety of free add-ons for Twitch streamers such as donations, cheers, and of course alerts. After logging into the Muxy website with your Twitch account, follow these steps to create your alerts.

  1. From your main Muxy dashboard, click on Alerts on the left menu.
  2. You will have four alerts already set up. These can either be deleted completely by pressing the red Delete Alert button at the bottom of the page or customized by filling in the relevant fields.
  3. Click on the Font tab to change the font settings for each alert and use the Media tab to customize the images and sounds.
  4. Click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the screen after making changes to each alert.
  5. Take note of the Alert Package URL listed at the top of the screen and copy this to your clipboard.

Stream Elements

StreamElements differs from most of the other alert solutions by incorporating its alerts into a full Twitch layout overlay which it hosts on its own servers. Users of StreamElements can create full layouts with images and widgets and then link to this remotely hosted overlay in OBS Studio.

All of these features are essentially bundled in together but it is also possible to pick and choose which ones you want to use. Here’s how to set up StreamElements for Twitch alerts only.

  1. After logging into StreamElements, select My Overlays from the left menu.
  2. Click on the blue Create Blank Overlay button in the top-right corner.
  3. Enter a video game name that you’ll use these alerts for. This is for your reference only.
  4. Enter a name for the overlay and press Submit.
  5. You’ll now see your new overlay in your profile. Click on the pen icon under the thumbnail image.
  6. Click on Widgets in the top menu.
  7. Select Add under AlertBox.
  8. You’ll now see your new overlay in your profile. Click on the pen icon under the thumbnail image.
  9. On the left side, you will see a list of your Twitch alerts. Uncheck them to disable the ones you don’t want to show in your stream and click on the gear icon to customize their appearance and sounds.
  10. When you’re finished, click on Launch Overlay in the bottom-left corner. This will open your overlay in a new browser tab. It will look blank right now and that’s completely normal. Copy the website URL from your browser’s address bar and then close the tab.

How to Add Your Twitch Alert URL to OBS Studio

To add your customized alerts to your Twitch stream, you’ll need to link to them from within OBS Studio using your unique website URL. Once you have your unique URL, follow these steps.

  1. Open OBS Studio and right-click on your workspace.
  2. Select Add and then choose BrowserSource.
  3. Enter your copied StreamLabs, Muxy, or StreamElements URL into the URL field and press OK.

Your Twitch alerts will now be set up in OBS Studio and ready to be activated during your next stream. If you make any changes to your alerts via StreamLabs, Muxy, or StreamElements, you do not have to update anything on OBS Studio. The changes will take effect automatically.
